BMW Hydrogen 7 BMW Hydrogen 7 BMW Hydrogen 7 / Looking Toward The Future We seem to be in a similar situation today. We still cannot decide on what fuel to power our future cars. Manufacturers are experimenting with hybrids, alcohol mixtures, and purely electrical powered cars. Among the various fuels and power sources today hydrogen is probably the cleanest running fuel. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have been looked upon as one of the best long term solutions to automobile emissions. The Honda FCX Clarity and the Chevrolet Equinox are both powered by hydrogen fuel cells that generate electricity to power their electric motors. These cars have brought many visions of the future closer to reality. The BMW Hydrogen 7 is s different kind of animal form these other hydrogen powered cars. The Hydrogen 7 burns hydrogen in its V-12 engine. Anytime the driver chooses to use gasoline he can pull in at any gas station and fill up. This makes the Hydrogen 7 a hydrogen-gasoline dual fuel car. On a full fuel supply the Hydrogen 7 can go up to 450 miles. 125 plus miles on a full tank of liquefied hydrogen and 300 plus miles of driving on a full gasoline tank will give you the total of approximately 450 miles. The Hydrogen 7 is built on the 2007 BMW 7 series platform. It can only be distinguished from other ordinary S7 cars through the clear marking and labeling painted on the exterior. The interior is every bit as luxurious as any flagship sedan made by BMW. Except for space given to the hydrogen tank in the trunk that makes the five seater S7 into the four seater Hydrogen 7 the difference is hardly noticeable. The handling of the Hydrogen 7 is the same world renowned handling that clearly marks BMW’s luxury sedans. The powertrain is an entirely different matter. BMW engineers have reduced the power of the gasoline engine so that the driver cannot differentiate between the performances of the two fuels since hydrogen cannot yet match the driving experience of a traditional S7. Though the Hydrogen 7 does not perform like traditional S7s it can still match the acceleration of other less pricey cars.
