Global Warming For Kids
Benefits of Recycling.com is presenting this series of pages on global warming becaue we believe there is evidence to support it is real. Even so, we are open to be proven wrong, which is why there are pages on why it is not real. Fair is fair.
Adults always want their children to enjoy the things
and activities they did when they were young. This is a huge portion of
what environmental sustainability is about and is one of the most
powerful motivations adults have in involving their kids in their
efforts to live sustainably for the sake of the Earth. However,
children now spend less time outdoors and therefore do not have a lot
of opportunities to interact with nature. Teaching kids about sustainability in order to reverse the current pace of climate change should also be done by involving them in daily practices of reducing waste as well as water and energy consumption. The importance of those practices should be verbalized and put into action so that they can fully understand the impact of everything we do to the health of our planet. The issue of climate change and global warming should be
tackled on a global scale but kids should be given the opportunity to
become involved at a local level. This can be done within their own
household, school, or community. They should also be encouraged to
learn on their own by exposing them to relevant resources. There are many online resources specifically published for children. Among them are Zerofootprint's Calculator for Kids and Kidsfootprints' Ecological Footprint Calculator. These tools allow them to discover the effect of their activities on the planet. To encourage involvement, kids can visit sites like Clean Up Australia,
Millennium
Kids, and Aware
Kids. Other sites useful for allowing kids to learn about
global warming and environmental sustainability include Nickelodeon's
Big Green Help, Earth Day
Canada's EcoKids, and various portions of the US
Environmental Protection Agency website such as the Environmental Kids Club,
the EPA Student
Center, the Climate
Change Kids Site, and the Recycle
City Interactive Tour. Global Warming For Kids / Participate Keep in mind that kids are always eager to learn and be part of something big. By giving them opportunities to learn about global warming and exposing them to sustainable practices, they can play a large part in tackling the issue of global warming now and in the future.
