Living Green For Kids / It’s never too late… or too early

If you want to go green, make sure you include your kids, too. No matter what their age their age, your kids can start learning what it means to live a healthier, more natural and environmentally friendly lifestyle. Explaining things to children is easier if you tell them the advantages of those things.

Living Green For Kids / Feeding Their Curiosity

Kids are inquisitive by nature, so if you inculcate eco-friendly habits in them from a tender age and guide them to protect environment, it will be a step towards ensuring a better and secure future for your child. You can teach your kids the meaning of going green with the eco friendly activities listed below.

Recycling: Recycling not only teaches kids how to take care of their environment, but also teaches them not to waste. Recycle newspapers, magazines and junk mail. You can present it as a game that involves sorting out the different types and putting them in their special bins for points. Assign a daily chore to help with the sorting and recycling.

Composting: Involve your children in composting your food scraps, coffee grounds, etc. Get them used to seeing that food waste is not garbage but rather something that can be turned into soil to grow more food.

Green gardening: Green gardening is a fulfilling activity for kids as well as healthy one, your child will gain self esteem, relaxation time and learn the meaning of being patient and responsible plus your family will enjoy spending quality time together and benefit from growing your own healthy food.

Energy: Tell them to turn off the lights, TV’s, computers, stereos and video game units when leaving a room and to leave the lights off during the day. Encourage your kids to play outside. By exploring the great outdoors they will learn about nature and save electricity at the same time.

Food Habits: Whenever you go out for buying fruits and vegetables, tell your kids to always buy foods grown on local farms by explaining them how it will help to reduce pollution from food transportation. Also it’s good if you promote vegetarianism among your children, it’ll help to decrease their carbon footprints in the long run.

Water: Explain them the importance of this precious resource of Mother Nature by giving appropriate examples. Teach them to keep the water flow to a pencil-thin stream when using the sink.

Transportation: Walk whenever possible and encourage your child to do so. Plan out your weekly menu and shopping needs, and go to the store once to cut back on multiple trips. When your child starts understanding the importance of cleaner (less polluted) atmosphere this habit will go long way in conserving the environment.
