Recycle Newspapers
Recycling paper is the procedure of taking waste paper and remaking it into new paper products. Paper that can be utilized for making the recycled paper is broken down into three categories. The categories are mill broke, pre-consumer waste and finally the post-consumer waste. As experts point out, mill broke paper is a kind of paper that becomes scrap while undergoing the manufacturing of paper. This type of paper gets recycled right in the paper mill. Pre-consumer paper waste is the type of paper that is discarded before consumer use. Post-consumer paper waste is the type that is discarded by the consumer after use. Paper that is used in the procedure of recycling is called scrap paper. The procedure includes 8 steps while recycling a paper. In the first stage, which is pulping, the water is being added to the paper while the machines keep continuing to separate the fibers. In the second step a filtering is implemented where screens are used for removing the contaminants larger than the fibers. In the next phase a centrifugal cleaning is initiated during which the materials, denser than the fiber, get released. Then a flotation or de-inking causes ink to collect on the surface of the paper. In the next step, a kneading or dispersion process is undertaken. In this process the machines assist in removing any remaining contaminant particles. Next, nest washing assists in removing any small particles by passing water through the fibers. In this way the white papers get bleached. In the final step, the cleaned recycled paper is made into a new paper product.
One should keep in mind that 90% of paper products is made from wood. 43% of harvested wood is being used by paper production. In addition, it should be kept in mind that recycling newspaper saves about 1 ton of wood while recycling print or copy paper saves around 2 tons of wood. Energy consumption is also reduced by a huge margin by recycling. In fact, a heated debate continues over the percentage of energy saving by the recycling. According to the Energy Information Administration, when the process of recycling is undertaken there is a 40% reduction in energy use. However, Bureau of International Recycling countered saying that the reduction level is 64%.
