Recycling Sustainability
Recycling Sustainability
Sustainability is the ability to maintain a certain status or process in existing systems. The most frequent use of the term “sustainability” is connected to biological or human systems in the context of ecology. The ability of an ecosystem to function and maintain productivity for a prolonged period is also sustainability.
Living a sustainable lifestyle is one way to help. In this series pages we will go into what sustainability has to with ecology, recycling, water, and more. We will also reveal what some companies (like Petsmart and Disney) are doing to make a difference by operating their businesses in a sustainable way.
Recycling Sustainability / How is recycling related to sustainability?
The role of recycling to preserving our environment and therefore to live in a sustainable way is far more important than most people realize. Recycling is the cornerstone for sustainability. The rate that we are consuming natural resources and the planet’s natural capital cannot be sustained without using them up eventually.
Recycling is the most important part of the answer to the question of living sustainably. Instead of throwing away valuable materials where it also makes an enormous impact on the environment and the varied ecosystems that interconnected recycling can recover these valuable materials that are sourced from the irreplaceable natural capital of the planet.
Recycling Sustainability / What does it mean?
Sustainability is a broad way of expressing the morals and ethics of a way of life and a system of production that we can all adhere to.
Sustainability means providing for the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the environment to provide for our future generations. It is our moral responsibility to leave to our future generations an environment that is as varied and bountiful as it is today.
The way that we are consuming our planet’s resources today is a cause of increasing widespread extinction of varied species. This cannot continue.
The price of this can only be a planet that cannot sustain human life. This means that the way we use our resources today can eventually cause our extinction. We are facing a bleak future and there must be an intensive concerted action by all or at least a large part of humanity to avert this disaster from happening. We must all act individually as well.
Recycling Sustainability / How can we prevent this catrastrophe?
The first step is changing individual behavior resulting in activities that use less energy, less material use, less waste generation and therefore resulting in less environmental degradation.
The next step is using technology that is more efficient and using products that have reduced impact on the environment.
Finally our relationship to our institutions must be one of awareness and insistence on activities, products, services, and planning in all aspects and all levels have an understanding of the implications on the environment.
It is probably an impossibility to eliminate the impact on the environment of all the activities of 6.6 billion people. It is only necessary that we be aware of what impact we have and for planning and taking action to reduce the most damaging effects.
Sustainability necessitates a balance and harmony between our needs and wants and the preservation of a healthy environment and ecosystem. We must find ways to live that is less demanding and damaging to our planet because for the moment it is the only one we have.
