Solar Composting Toilets
Solar Composting Toilets / What's Compost
A sun powered composting toilet is another innovation from our generation's fast developing technology. It is a structure that can compost human manure and urine without wasting water and energy. This unique and useful product has an average capacity usage of four adults daily. It involves no water and no electricity. Therefore, it is not connected to any tank or plumbing.
Imagine how this system eliminates expenses while saving resources. Best of all, it does not have the need for water. It also has the capacity to eliminate any unpleasant odor and it will produce a dry and odor-less, ready-to-use compost.
In today’s world water crisis and environmental pollution are the biggest problems threatening the existence of living beings on this wonderful planet. A composting toilet can definitely help in solving these issues to some extent. Waterless toilets are a rather odd concept to most people. However, you cannot get any more environmentally friendly or cost effective than a waterless composting toilet.
Composting has numerous advantages. It is the main requirement for healthy planting. It can take place almost anytime even without exerting effort.
Composting, often described as nature’s way of recycling, is the biological process of breaking up of organic waste such as kitchen waste, manure, leaves, grass trimmings, newspaper, worms, and coffee grounds, etc., into an extremely useful humus-like substance by various micro-organisms including bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes in the presence of oxygen.
Actinomycetes are similar to fungus in the way they grow and spread, but its distinguishing elements are that the types of materials they are efficient at decomposing. The active nature in this microscopic bacteria and the sheer number present (about 10 million per 1 gram of soil), make them highly effective at breaking down materials like tree bark and other hard organic material.
Inexpensive and Easy to Use
Inexpensive biodegradable materials are used to help decompose the human byproducts. The interval in emptying the toilet is approximately every 6 months but varies depending upon how often it is used. Worms in the bin under the toilet help to speed up the composting process.
The solar composting toilet is easy to install, easy to manage, and easy to transport. It is called solar because it uses the help of the sun to complete the process. The material of the roof allows robust light from the sun’s energy to enter during the day. Any excess liquid that the compost will not be able to absorb will be evaporated with the help of solar heat so it will automatically be kept dry.
The vent allows air passage by convection currents through a ventilator that is storm-proof.
No Excuses
This very cool green invention does not contaminate any water surfaces surrounding the area and the vents are screened disallowing insects to pass through. Pathogens living in compost will perish in time because of heat and duration of the process.
There is no need to worry about harmful effects because there will be none. The solar composting toilet is inexpensive, it helps conserve resources, and it produces healthy soil for planting. It is convenient and engineered to be accessible even to handicapped people.
