Solar Energy Tax Credits / Australia Provides Rebates and More

To promote the use of solar energy for homes and businesses, many government authorities in different countries have turned incentives into legislation. In Australia, for example, those who install solar energy systems are not only entitled to enticing rebates but also feed-in-tariffs that allow them to earn credit for every kilowatt hour of excess energy they produce using their solar energy systems and feed back into electricity grids.

Policies in feed-in-tariffs differ between states in Australia. For example, the state of Victoria offers AU$0.60 of credit per kilowatt-hour for systems of up to 5 kilowatts in size while New South Wales offers the same rate for systems of up to 10 kilowatts in size.

In South Australia and Queensland, rates are at a minimum of AU$0.44 per kilowatt hour for systems of up to 10 kilowatts in size while Tasmania offers $AU0.20 per kilowatt hour.

In the Australian Capital Territory, rates are at AU$0.5005 per kilowatt hour for systems of up to 10kW in size and AU$0.4004 per kilowatt hour for systems of up to 30kW in size.

In the Northern Territory, the rate is at AU$0.4576 but has a daily cap of AU$5 per system. Anything in excess is priced at $AU0.2311 per kilowatt hour.

Solar Energy Tax Credits / The Rest of the World

Although rates offered vary, this feed-in-tariff incentive system has been present not only in Australia but also in various countries around the world. These countries include Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Singapore, Portugal, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Italy, Israel, Ireland, Hungary, Greece, Germany, France, Estonia, Denmark, Cyprus, China, Canada, Brazil, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, and the United States.

In the United States, other solar energy incentives exist. These fall under the Securing America’s Energy Independence Act and the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Through these policies, homes and businesses can avail of tax credits of up to 30% after purchasing and installing various solar energy systems and products.

Many other countries have employed tax credits as incentive for homes and businesses to utilize solar energy. These tax credits have been very effective as more and more people across the globe are enticed not only because they can generate clean energy and lower greenhouse gas emissions but also because of the fact that they can significantly reduce their costs.
