Top Green Cars

In our opinion a green car (electric cars, hybrid cars, alternative energy vehiclies) is a car that is more energy efficient than your average car especially when the manufacturer has made a special and concerted effort to develop new approaches or new technologies. An efficient vehicle runs on less fuel which saves more of the world’s finite natural resources.

The amount of by-products generated, which translates to the car’s impact on the environment in the course of its operation, is also a factor in determining its “greenness”.  Cars incorporated with new technologies often need all the public support it can get in terms of sales so that greater mass production can be achieved to drive costs down and make it available to more people.

Support also serves to generate additional funds for further research to make improvements on the technology. This list then looks at conventionally powered cars (gasoline or diesel) as well as electric, hybrid, and biofuel cars.

Top Green Cars / Prius

Toyota Prius- since this car was launched it has been generally accepted and lauded as the most environmentally friendly production car in existence at the present. The Prius is a hybrid car using batteries to augment the 1.5 liter gasoline engine while emitting only 104 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer of operation.

Green Cars / Honda Civic

Honda Civic Hybrid-has fantastic fuel consumption without the environmentally damaging emissions of the diesels that are its only competition in terms of fuel economy. It can cruise with nary a bump because of the excellently damped suspension added to a comfortable and roomy cabin. The new hybrid is a big improvement over the previous model with more torque and better economy.

Top Green Cars / Citoren C1

Citroen C1- this car is available in diesel giving the best fuel consumption in its class giving 53.3 miles per gallon in city driving. 109 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer of operation also makes the C1 an environmentally friendly automobile.

Green Cars / Saab 9-3

Saab 9-3 Biopower- Saab is the one of the first manufacturers to offer flex fuel powered cars on all of its models. Flex fuel technology is tried and tested. In Brazil the flex fuel has dominated the market. Sweden also has sales of over 10,000 bio fuel Saab 9-5’s. Bioethanol cars can achieve reductions of carbon dioxide emissions of between 50-70 percent over their lifetimes.

Top Green Cars / Ford Focus

Ford Focus FFV-initially launched in 1998 has come to represent modern Ford quality, design, and performance. Ford’s advanced diesel technology coupled with advance aerodynamics results in very low carbon dioxide emissions and excellent fuel consumption. The chassis is the same old benchmark and as always results in excellent performance.
